Crossing Asia
In 2017-2018, we crossed Asia overland from India to Japan, attempting to use no planes and no (new) single use plastics. We filmed the journey on a handheld DSLR camera as intimate vlogs that explore the highs and lows of the journey. Subscribe to our YouTube channel to be notified as each new video is uploaded.
New love, an unknown adventure, no planes, no plastics, and two kids.
At 31 years old, Angie found herself living in tents on the East Coast of Australia as a near-bankrupt single mum wearing the scars of her previous toxic marriage. She reset her compass for an epic, overland Asian voyage with her kids to heal and rediscover the wander of the world, inspired by the diaries and photographs she’d read of her parent’s own travels across Asia in the 70s. Just prior to their departure, Angie met a handsome Frenchman and took a risk on love, inviting him along for the journey.
Together, Angie, Remy, Ryder and Hunter set out to Cross Asia overland from India to Japan between 2017 and 2018, using no planes and no plastics as much as possible.
The journey began in Jaipur, Rajasthan, and we then went on to explore Pushkar, Agra, Delhi, Manali, Ladakh, and Varanasi in India, before crossing into Nepal a month later. We trekked Gosainkunda and Langtang in the Himalayas, visited Her Farm Nepal - an agricultural and media studio women’s refuge - and also visited schools being re-built post-earthquake in the Everest region with the Australian Himalayan Foundation.
From Nepal, our journey took us back to India via two border crossings - one illegal, one legal - before we made it across to Thailand and spent our time in the jungle exploring and camping over the Christmas and New Year’s period whilst awaiting our visas to enter China, which we later did via Laos. Eventually, we made it to Japan, Angie’s previous home and Ryder’s birthplace, finding solace in the mountains and teaching Remy to snowboard before returning - briefly - to Australia where we would ponder our next adventures.
Crossing Asia was documented on a handheld DSLR camera as intimate Vlogs that live on our Voyage Virage YouTube channel - yes, we are finally getting through all this footage!
