Stories from the floating stories lab
Stories are the threads that weave us into relational networks — connecting past wisdom, present experience, and future possibility across generations, cultures, and oceans.
Starboard hull assembly and we publish our first major report on the end-of-life boat crisis.
We're starting something a little old-fashioned: SLOW Footprints Snapshot, a printed letter from the Floating Stories Lab, sent by post.
This report assesses the scientific, social, environmental and political impacts of Regenerative Tides: Sailing for Solutions (ReTISS), the Floating Stories Lab’s pilot citizen science initiative delivered during the IMPETUS Accelerator (June 2025 – January 2026).
Seen as heritage worth valuing for tourism, boat graveyards carry a heavy environmental cost. Over time, debris breaks away from the hulls, polluting the water and the animals that live in it.

Braving putrid temperatures and a two-day black out were a group of talented artists and academics who joined us in Finistere for the 2026 FSL ReTISS Citizen Science Creative Residency. No joke guys, it was a bloody hot week. Between field trip visits to the local Boat Cemetery, kayaking up the Goyen River to view these sites of decay from the water looking back, and debris collecting, the team worked together during creative interpretation sessions to co-create the Table of Curiosity, which FSL will begin touring next month to festivals, events and conferences across Brittany.
We wrap up Week 53 in the boat yard, sharing updates and great news about a BIG incoming donation of timber!
Welcome to the new Weekly Digest segment on YouTube, with real-time updates dropping on the channel every Sunday evening.
From glue-ups in the yard to hosting scientists across Brittany — a couple of big weeks here for FSL!
