Cutting Movingui Legacy Hardwood Planks

Our latest video in the Boat Build series shares the experience of cutting our Movingui hardwood planks, which was no easy feat!

With Remy more mobile but still unable to operate heavy machinery due to remaining in the corset with his C5 vertebrae fracture, it was up to me to learn how to use Pascal’s beast of a circular saw. This was the hardest phase of the boat build preparation for me so far, though I am grateful for the opportunity to get more intimate with the timber that will become our keel, stem and stern posts, and other components of the boat.

The Movingui timber, as you may recall from our previous episode, is an African hardwood that we sourced as legacy stock from a two-generation family of carpenters in Brittany. Pascal and I drove two hours to sight and validate the quality of the wood—he truly is a master boat builder and we are so grateful for his experience and willingness to share his knowledge.

We also have more Movingui as you see towards the end of the video that we are currently turning in to the stringers. The next episode will be an exciting one showing you this process, and you’ll also get to meet our first live-in volunteer, Federico, who is an absolute gem!
