Video: Art x Science From the Field

Back in October, we welcomed a group of artists to Plouhinec, Brittany, to immerse in the local coastal ecosystem and partake in our ReTISS citizen science initiative through a week-long residency program. Participants took part in researching of marine pollution from end-of-life boats alongside coastal experiences like sailing, free diving, and walks, all while inspiring the development of artistic responses that center ecological care, lived experience, and ocean kinship.

Writer and filmmaker Nathan Myers (California, USA) documented the week-long residency through his lens, creating this wonderful video to share and inspire.

Nathan’s creative contributions also include the Bad Boats Mapping Field Guide Video, a custom-trained Bad Boats GPT (launching publicly soon), and we are currently collaborating on a third video spotlighting our ReTISS initiative and FSL’s participation in the IMPETUS Science4Change Accelerator to share with our European Union Horizon funders.

Thank you so much Nathan! It was a pleasure welcoming you to Brittany and we certainly hope to see you again, most definitely aboard the boat once she splashes.

About ReTISS

Regenerative Tides: Sailing for Solutions (ReTISS) is a multidisciplinary citizen science initiative combining environmental research, storytelling, and community engagement to investigate the ecological and health impacts of abandoned fiberglass (GRP) boats. Our mission is to empower coastal communities—particularly underrepresented groups—to take part in field data collection, environmental education, and policy advocacy. By engaging citizens directly, we aim to drive more sustainable marine waste management practices and promote regenerative design in the boating industry.

Future Immersive Experiences

Yes, we have new immersive experiences on the horizon! FSL members will receive new opportunities to apply for open calls, including Boat Build Residencies, Art x Science Immersions, Workshops, future sailing voyages, storytelling and post-graduate research residencies.

Memberships start at 20€ per year and provide grassroots financial support across all aspects of the association.
