Hi folks,
Enjoy this new episode in the Boat Build series, where we have opted for more of a ‘slow media’ approach. In this episode, Simone (our new volunteer from Italy, now living just around the corner!) and Remy show us the process of scarfing and then rounding the edges of the Movingui timber sheer stringers (the top level stringers that meet the deck).
Our Movingui timber, at 750 kg/m3, is quite dense, and as we are following the Gougeon Brothers wood humidity graph, it looks like our wood is around 16% humidity at present—we want to bring that level down to 7-12%. As such, we decided to hold off on epoxy work until Spring, as there is a risk of the wood rotting inside the epoxy if too humid.
There is plenty of other prep work to do in the meantime, including cutting the bulkheads, which we aim to do in February, and then once the weather warms up we will begin epoxy work and assembling the backbone and bulkheads structures on both hulls—exciting!
Don’t forget about our upcoming Boat Build Residency in May, applications are still open: https://www.floatingstorieslab.org/boat-build-residencies
Enjoy the video!
