— Eric Weiner, National Geographic Magazine 02.2021

Voyage Virage Adventures

Angie and Remy, shaped by divergent upbringings, share a common love for travel. Angie, nurtured on tales of her parents' decade-long global journey, dreamed of exploring beyond suburban Adelaide. In contrast, Remy's youth unfolded along the West African coast, a canvas of wild adventures and freedom.

Hunter and Ryder, born to Angie, a travel writer, and their Japanese father, a photographer, inherited a nomadic lifestyle. Their diverse heritage, a blend of Australian, Japanese, and through Remy - their stepfather - French cultures, exposed them to varied landscapes and cultures from birth. Embracing an alternative education path, they have embarked on unique learning experiences for the past decade.

Welcoming our new daughter Sahara, and accompanied by Sage, the family Border Collie, we have adapted our travel plans to accommodate our growing family - responsible adventuring is key.

Travel Health Tips

It is not natural for us to be this sedentary. Travel is in our genes. For most of the time our species has existed, ‘we’ve lived as nomadic hunter-gatherers moving about in small bands of 150 or fewer people,’ writes Christopher Ryan in ‘Civilized to Death’. This nomadic life was no accident. It was useful. “Moving to a neighboring band is always an option to avoid brewing conflict or just for a change in social scenery,” says Ryan. Robert Louis Stevenson put it more succinctly: “The great affair is to move.”

The Un-Hippy Trail

A ‘round-the-world’ 70s adventure.
In the 1970s, my parents Rose and Alan left Adelaide in their early 20s to embark on an epic overland adventure around the world. Following the famed ‘Hippy Trail’ in reverse, from south to north, and traversing around the world as well, dad filled several notebooks with his travel diary entries and took slide film photographs.

Together with my mum Rose, who has been diligently digitizing the now aging diaries and scanning the slides, we are thrilled to be sharing the tales of this epic round-the-world adventure with you weekly on Substack.
